Our traditional overnight resident High School Camp is built for teens with diabetes, offering campers more options and choices in activities and autonomy in their diabetes management. Along with fun activities like Color Team Battle, mountain biking, and the end-of-camp party, teens have the opportunity to discuss and learn about topics like driving with diabetes and making a healthy transition to high school and college.
High School Camp offers teens much-needed independence and a week of fun with their friends, gaining new experiences in a safe and supportive environment. Campers spend time in their cabin groups as well as in co-ed "Color Teams" composed of campers from all grades.
As our high school campers prepare to face new challenges and the increased independence of high school or moving away from home, Camp Leo strives to create an open atmosphere of communication and support. Campers can talk about being a teen with diabetes and get honest answers from others with experience. Diabetes education topics vary by grade level and include driving safely with diabetes, sick day management, advanced pump and MDI skills, and transitioning from a pediatric to an adult endocrinologist. Campers learn what it takes to be safe, healthy, and successful young adults with diabetes.
High School Camp Fee
Over the past 30 years, Camp Leo has never turned away a camper due to financial constraints. Type 1 United is committed to continuing this legacy. This year, all program costs will experience an increase to better align with industry standards and better support the organization. This increased fee is still subsidized by generous donors and supporters such as the Lions Clubs. You can read more about the program costs by visiting our FAQ Page
We never want finances to be the reason a child misses camp. Financial assistance is available and we encourage you to apply for a campership. Partial and full scholarships are awarded based on financial need, which is calculated by family size and adjusted gross family income compared to federal poverty guidelines.
