Our traditional overnight resident Camp Leo Elementary School Camp is designed with that specific age group in mind. With fun hands-on activities designed to ignite a a passion for the outdoors, adventure, and exploration, elementary camp helps campers meet friends and build foundational diabetes management skills. Campers get to participate in a variety of fun activities, while gaining useful skills and making lifelong friends. Elementary camp activities are specifically designed with the developmental and physical needs of that age group in mind.
This camp session is designed for campers going into grades 3-6 in the Fall.
Historically Elementary camp is designed for campers entering 3rd-5th grade. Camp Leo 2024 has added the option for campers entering 6th grade to attend Elementary camp. During registration caregivers will choose Elementary Camp or Middle School camp for their camper entering 6th grade. Campers can only attend one camp session to allow space for other campers. If you are unsure which camp would best suit your camper please contact our Program Coordinator, Tina Ghosn programs@T1United.org.
Campers interact with other kids and adults with type 1 diabetes who can teach them critical self-care skills in a safe and welcoming environment. For some campers, this is the first time they have a chance to meet peers with diabetes, giving them the opportunity to learn from each other and showing them they are not alone in this life with type 1 diabetes.
Elementary Camp Fee
Over the past 30 years, Camp Leo has never turned away a camper due to financial constraints. Type 1 United is committed to continuing this legacy. This year, all program costs will experience an increase to better align with industry standards and better support the organization. This increased fee is still subsidized by generous donors and supporters such as the Lions Clubs. You can read more about the program costs by visiting our FAQ Page.
We never want finances to be the reason a child misses camp. Financial assistance is available and we encourage you to apply for a campership. Partial and full scholarships are awarded based on financial need, which is calculated by family size and adjusted gross family income compared to federal poverty guidelines.
